Demand for Aesthetic Procedures on the Rise in 2014: ASPS Report
Advancements in cosmetic surgery and non-surgical aesthetic procedures have improved the success rates of these procedures dramatically. There has been a consistent surge in demand for these procedures in recent years due to the positive word of mouth from existing patients and growing awareness among both women and men about the benefits of these procedures.
A recent report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reveals the growth trends in aesthetic procedures in the US in the last 15 years. The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery, led by a team of experienced plastic surgeons, provides a range of procedures using state of the art surgical technologies. Invasive Procedures
Breast Augmentation
According to the ASPS report, the number of breast augmentation surgeries performed in 2014 was 286,254. This figure represents an increase of 35% since 2000.
Breast Implant Removal
The procedure revealed a decline in demand by 42% between 2000 and 2014, with 23,774 breast implant removal surgeries performed in 2014. This is indicative of the higher success rates of breast augmentation in recent years.
Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Breast surgery procedures performed by cosmetic surgeons in 2014 stood at 92,714. This number is an increase of 3% over 2013 and 75% over 2000.
Breast Reduction (Aesthetic patients only)
The number of breast reduction surgeries carried out in 2014 was 41,309. In 2013, a similar number of surgeries was performed.
Breast Reduction in Men (Gynecomastia)
The number of breast reduction surgeries for men in 2014 exceeded 26,000, showing a rise of 14% over 2013.
Buttock Augmentation with Fat Grafting
More than 11,500 procedures were performed in 2014, revealing a jump of 15% over the previous year.
Buttock Implants and Lift
Buttock implant procedures increased by almost 100% in 2014 as compared to 2013, with 1,863 procedures performed in 2014. Buttock lift surgeries also grew by 44% over 2013, with more than 3,500 procedures carried out in 2014.
Other major plastic surgery procedures in 2014 included abdominoplasty, nose surgery, lower body lift, thigh lift, arm lift, facelift, and cheek and chin augmentation.
Minimally Invasive Procedures
Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox or Dysport)
Botox and Dysport are the most popular FDA approved injectable anti-aging treatments for the face. The number of treatments performed in 2014 neared 6.7 million, representing an eight-fold jump over 2000.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peel procedures grew by 7% in 2014 over the previous year, with almost 1.25 million procedures performed in 2014.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
A total of 621,724 IPL treatments for skin tightening and rejuvenation were performed in 2014, which was a growth of 3% over the previous year.
Laser Hair Removal
More than 1.1 million laser hair removal procedures were carried out in 2014.
Laser Skin Resurfacing
The total number of laser skin resurfacing treatments in 2014 was 543,731, recording an increase of 6% over the previous year.
Laser Vein Treatment and Sclerotherapy
Laser vein treatment procedures stood at 207,790 in 2014. In the same year, the number of sclerotherapy procedures performed was 320,609.
Microdermabrasion
A total of 881,905 microdermabrasion treatments were performed in 2014.
Facial Fillers
Dermal filler injectable treatments were among the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments in 2014, with more than 2.3 million procedures.
Almost 14 million minimally invasive aesthetic procedures were performed in 2014, registering a growth of 154% between 2000 and 2014.
