The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery™ ACPS is one of twelve plastic surgery organizations in the nation to have the seal of approval for its fellowship by American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). The new aesthetic plastic surgery fellowship program is a one-year program that provides graduates of plastic surgery residency programs with additional training in aesthetic face, body and breast surgery.
Spearheading the effort to establish an ASAPS endorsement for the fellowship was Dr. Rolando Morales “With the group’s long history as a strong practice and its commitment to education and safety, I had every confidence that we would get the approval for an ASAPS-endorsed fellowship. It was just a matter of time and persistence.”

299x316The best time to have plastic surgery is a highly individual matter, but winter (where the climate is cold, that is) is a particularly popular time for several good reasons:

1. Cooler temps = warmer clothes and more coverage

Since cooler temps dictate bundling up, long-sleeves, and pants, it’s easy to conceal bandages during recovery from a plastic surgery procedure. In addition, some body contouring procedures, including liposuction and tummy tuck surgery, require patients to wear a compression garment for several weeks following surgery to reduce swelling and help the body conform to its new contours as it heals. This added layer is typically more comfortable this time of year compared to warmer months when less clothing is the norm.

2. Time off from work

Most cosmetic plastic surgical procedures require a minimum recovery time of about one week or more depending upon the procedure or procedure combination that is performed. Since many people have extra time off from work and extracurricular activities during the holidays, it’s a convenient time for many to schedule surgery, recovery and postoperative follow-up visits.

3. Oh the weather outside is frightful…

While a winter wonderland can be a sparkling, magical sight to behold, let’s face it, frigid outdoor temps typically make indoor activities a more appealing choice compared to warmer days, when blue, sunny skies beckon us outside. The natural inclination to hibernate a bit more this time of year is a good fit calendar-wise for the temporary activity restriction and slower pace recuperation from surgery requires.

4. Perfect timing for spring break and summer vacation

If you’d like to be swimsuit ready for spring break and summer, having cosmetic plastic procedure in the fall or winter allows time for healing and recovery so you are looking and feeling good when balmier days arrive.
While scheduling cosmetic plastic surgery in the fall and winter has its benefits, the ideal season to undergo a procedure ultimately is a subjective decision—one that varies from person to person depending upon factors such as family, work, vacation, and caregiver schedules. Rest assured, plastic surgeons at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS) perform thousands of plastic surgery procedures for satisfied patients every month of they year, including the blazing days of summer.

In the spirit of the holiday season, surgeons and staff at The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS) are partnering with patients to support the charitable work of those who spread peace on earth and goodwill toward men all year long.
In December, a group of ACPS staff traveled to Roatan, Honduras to assist with the island’s annual Christmas food outreach, preparing and distributing bags of food to individuals and families in need. In addition, the team brought $2000 worth of medications and other medical supplies to Roatan’s Clinical Esperanza, which provides low cost/no cost medical care to the people of Roatan, many of whom would not seek treatment due to costs and the crowded condition of the local hospital.
The Roatan mission represents just one of the global outreach projects spearheaded by Renee Arriaga, family nurse practitioner for ACPS surgeon Dr. Henry Mentz. A portion of patients’ fees for nonsurgical aesthetic treatments with Arriaga—$25 per treatment–are set aside for charitable missions the nurse leads on behalf of the Mentz Foundation, a non-profit entity that Dr. Mentz established for this purpose.
This year, part of the money was also donated to the Boys and Girls Harbor in La Porte, Texas, a non-profit organization that provides care for children and families in crisis. For children who are experiencing family hardship, neglect, abandonment or abuse, the Harbor provides shelter in a family environment designed to nurture and help them cultivate healthy life skills and habits.
Arriaga commented, “Patients are so glad to know that, not only are the treatments they receive benefitting them individually, but are also helping others, as well. Many express the desire to volunteer for Mentz Foundation projects, so it’s meaningful for them to be able to contribute to the outreach in this way.”
Heidi Fell, RN, aesthetic nurse specialist for ACPS surgeon Dr. Chris Patronella, experienced a similar outpouring of patient generosity when she invited patients to dontate toys to Dr. Patronella’s Toys for Tots campaign in December in exchange for 10 percent off a nonsurgical treatment with her.
Fell noted, “Our patients have been so excited about the toy drive. Some bring in a toy even if they are only here for a consultation and not doing a treatment. They have put a lot of thought in to the gifts they bring in. We are all so blessed, and we come into contact with so many people here, at ACPS—this has been a wonderful way to join with our patients to make someone’s holiday a little brighter.”

“Fat grafting is a combination of removing fat from the areas of the body where it is unattractive and then placing this fat where it is very attractive to highlight and accentuate contours of the body and face.”

-ACPS Surgeon Dr. Christopher K. Patronella
Fat Grafting | Liposuction | Excess Fat | Katy | Houston TXMost of us have wished at some time or another that we could move fat from one area of our body to another. Fat grafting makes this dream a reality. That’s because it combines  two procedures in one surgery. First, liposuction is performed to removed fat from one or multiple areas where it can be difficult to budge such as the waistline, abdomen, hips, thighs, and bra line. This fat is then grafted into areas of the body where a fuller, shapelier contour is desirable such as the buttocks (Brazilian Butt Lift surgery) and hips. ACPS surgeons also use fat grafting to improve contour deficiencies such as the grooves left by bra straps—a common aesthetic issue of women who undergo breast reduction to lighten overly large breasts.
ACPS plastic surgeon Dr. Christopher K. Patronella says one of the most common types of fat grafting cases he performs is for women who want curvier, hourglass proportions. By taking fat away from the waist and adding it to the hips, he sculpts greater definition in the waistline that blends into softly curving hips. The attractive result “changes her profile and proportions in a more three-dimensional manner,” said Dr. Patronella.
But ACPS surgeons also use fat grafting to achieve seemingly subtle sculpting goals that can dramatically improve the body’s overall contour lines. Dr. Patronella commented, “Often, what looks like a prominent bulge is actually a lack of fat in an adjacent area that makes the bulge more noticeable. Fat grafting helps to soften the line between the two areas.
“I see this often in women who have a pear shape with excess fat in the outer thighs, known as ‘saddlebags,’ along with a deep indentation in the buttock above it. While the obvious solution might seem to simply remove the accumulation of fat in the outer thighs, doing this without also addressing the deep indentation above it would fail to adequately contour the buttock.
“In many cases, taking a little fat in the saddlebag/hip area and using this to fill in the sunken area above it will create a smoother transition and a more elegant overall shape.”

Kudos_section_awards1The surgeons of ACPS were honored to be named top doctors in their surgical specialty in three separate surveys conducted by the mazines Houstonia, H Texas, and Health and Finess Sports. Houstonia magazine solicited peer nominations from nearly 16,000 medical professionals in Harris, Montgomery, Waller, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers, and Liberty counties to obtain the Top Doctor nominees.
In Health and Fitness Sports magazine’s confidential online survey, doctors were asked to name two physicians to whom they would send their family or friends in 40 specialties, while H Texas magazine Top Doc award winners were selected based upon an online survey that was open to the public.
